Recommendations For Rolled Grass

If you need to install grass in rolls, the first recommendation you should know is that this job is best delegated to a professional; however, if you are a hard-working person and follow some advice, you could do it yourself.

Now we must clarify that the job of installing rolled grass, also known as sod, is straightforward, but when doing so, you must take specific essential care that will result in proper installation.

Till and aerate the soil before laying the grass sods.

If the soil is very compacted, it is necessary to till or move it up to ten or fifteen centimetres deep. You can do it quickly and economically by renting a motorcycle hoe. With this, we will be able to aerate the land for the benefit of the grass.

Before installing the grass sod, the ground must be levelled.

We will give the land a slight inclination to ensure drainage to ensure the water will not remain stagnant and harm our grass. Check that there will be no puddles when it waters or rains once the ground has been smoothed.

Installation of grass in rolls

Installing the grass that comes in rolls is easy and similar to laying down carpets. In any case, some precautions and guidelines must be followed. Get to know them below:

  • To install the grass, you must extend the rolls parallel, starting first with the longest and straightest edge of the land. You must be very careful to join the rolls well, placing the edges closely with each other. It is necessary that you do not leave spaces and that you support the rows so that the joints do not coincide. It is, therefore, required to alternate the position of the rolls. If necessary, use a knife to shape the edges of the roll into the shape of your garden.

When installing rolled grass, it is necessary to water the section lightly so it does not dry out.

  • Compact: the next step after installing the grass rolls is to roll the roller over them again. This will improve the contact between the ground and the registration and will eliminate any possible air pockets that may occur. It is necessary to make it clear that using the roller should never be rotated on the grass since doing so will crush it and damage its appearance. It is best to reach the end of the garden and, there, turn it or lift it to turn around and continue working.
  • Water the grass: you have already installed and compacted the rolled grass, so it is time to give it the first accurate watering. Keep in mind that this must be done sincerely and must be slow. The depth of the water must be about 10 cm. You need to know that in the first week or up to the first ten days, you must moisten your grass thoroughly, watering it 3 or 4 times a day. This way, you will promote good rooting. When this time passes, you will continue with regular watering.
  • Make the first mowing: the first cut you should make on your lawn is after 12 days. This should be a high cut, and ensure the blade is very sharp. After two weeks of the installation process, you can use it usually.
